Personal Response

I think it is important to know about your heritage as well as the history of your family. When learning about the history of your family, you learn more about yourself. It is extremely important to learn about yourself, and your family. It is important to recognize the people in your family that have come before you. It is important to learn about the things that your family has been through, and how it has impacted your family years later.

Teaching Ideas

Think about your first, middle and last name. Think about where it came from. Do you know anyone else in your family with your name?
I would ask students to look up the meaning of their first name. We can find important people with that name and investigate accomplishments that they have had.
