Summary
When Little Star’s and mama make a mooncake together, mama reminds her of how long it took to make and that she shouldn’t eat it yet. Little Star cannot resist and each night sneaks a nibble of the mooncake hanging to dry. Each nibble starts to create a phase of the moon until it is all gone. Mama tries to find the mooncake and sees Little Star has eaten it all. They make a new one together.

Personal Response
I think this is a great introduction to the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, as well as a loving parent-child portrayal, and a nice bedtime story. Although it’s an original story, it has the feel of a folktale.
Teaching Ideas
This book touches on the phases of the moon and would go perfectly for introducing or aiding in the science curriculum for phases of the moon and lunar activity. It could also be a character-education story when talking with students about patience and listening to directions.
