Personal Response
I thought this book was beautiful and capturing. Although there is not much writing on the pages, the illustrations take over and draw you in. I like how the illustrations show diversity and the beauty of the island. I think this book is a great story for children to read.
Teaching Ideas
I would like to have a read-aloud in the classroom with resources to do after. Since this book is center on Dominican heritage and diversity of that country I think it would be fun for students to retell the story, sort the sequence, and then do activities. For activities, students could identify colors in their environment which they think are important.
