Personal Response
Bedtime for Sweet Creatures is a creative African American children’s book that celebrates imagination, playful moments, and the love between a Black mother and child. This is both a window and mirror for me as I recalled bedtime as a child. Being silly and imaginative as a child goes across all cultures and can be celebrated by all.
Teaching Ideas
Although this is a bedtime story, this book can be used to teach about the African American culture and the animals they align with. It is a great read aloud for young children and is a great way to inspire imagination in every day life.
