Personal Response

This book is an easy read that can be enjoyed by anyone! The pictures are fun and engaging while the words rhyme. I really enjoyed reading this book and found that I really enjoyed the illustrations the most. They are bright and fun and really add to the reading experience. A young child that cannot read can look at the pictures to follow along with the story. I connected to this book before reading it because I love Adobo and was interested in learning more about Filipino culture.

Teaching Ideas

After reading this book, students can research more about Filipino culture or another culture of their choosing. While researching, students can use a graphic organizer to track their thinking. They should research food, landmarks, and different household objects used. When done, students can make a multimodal presentation to share what they learned with the class. In their presentation, they could mirror the ‘ABC’ format that Reyes used in the book.
