Personal Response

I enjoyed reading this story and looking at the illustrations. The illustrations will allow students to engage in an open-ended conversation. For example, the letter “C” stands for “celebrate.” The illustration shows two women getting married. This page may allow young students to ask various questions. This will allow the teacher to start a conversation regarding gender and sexuality. This story includes all cultures that is why no cultures were listed within my submission.

Teaching Ideas

This story can be used for various social-emotional learning lessons or when aiming to foster a positive classroom learning environment! Young students who are questioning their sexuality, identity, and/or gender may benefit from reading this story. The teacher can use this to guide the student when feeling comfortable in their own skin. This story can help to teach concepts of accepting one another both in and outside of the classroom!
