Personal Response

This book to me was very moving and kept me engaged the entire time.  It is not only fiction but also has fantasy in it as well. I would categorize this book as fiction fantasy as for the genre. To me this is a magical book that focuses on the the themes of childhood and family. The bond between the Abuela and her granddaughter, Rosalba is truly a magical one and I think that many are able to relate to this bond with alike or different family members they also may share in their lives.

Teaching Ideas

While reading this book I thought about a few teaching ideas that I could incorporate within the classroom after reading this book aloud to my students.  I would definitely read this book to my entire class. I believe because of the fantasy aspect they would remain engaged. Then, I would do a few different activities pertaining to what their culture is like and what they would do with a family member if they were able to fly across a major city together. This can get creative!
