Personal Response
The story Baba, What Does my Name Mean? is another story that I read in the beginning of the school year. Teaching in the Syracuse City School District, my classroom makes up consists of children from a variety of backgrounds. I think that this story can relate to some of the students that make up my classroom.
Teaching Ideas
Inside my classroom I would have students make their own name tag and decorate the name to represent their culture and heritage. This activity allows for students to illustrate why their name is unique. They can share what they drew along with what their name might mean, if it applies. This will support students to feel welcomed in our room.
