But she struggles to find the words.Taking a deep breath, she tells her classmates about the fireworks that burst like stars in the night sky, leaving streaks of gold and red and green. Personal Response

I thought overall that this book is sweet and has a good storyline and relatable characters for young students. I even learned more information about the holiday Diwali. Many people and children may be able to relate to this book and the main character in the sense that sharing information and/or presenting in front of a crowd of peers may be scary and hard to do for them.

Teaching Ideas

I would use this book in my classroom to introduce and show students new holidays and traditions that some families may celebrate. We would talk about and learn about Diwali and then students themselves can share the different holidays they may celebrate. This also could provide an opportunity for families to be involved and complete a project at home that shares their holidays and/or traditions. Students would learn about other holidays they may not be familiar with.
