Summary

Rivka loves to spend time in the kitchen with her Jewish Bubbie (Grandma). They are both trying to make the perfect Challah bread for their holiday celebration. However, you can’t get something right every time, and baking and cooking is an experiment and a learning experience. After practicing and focusing on being together, Bubbie and Rivka may be able to make the Best-Ever Challah.

Personal Response

Since I practice Judaism, I found this book to be really heartwarming and relatable. I always cook with my grandma, so this was something even more special for me. This is a great book to read to students to be able to expose them to the Jewish culture, so they can develop knowledge of our traditions and be able to compare them to the ones they do in their culture.

Teaching Ideas

The students can create a tri-fold pamphlet brochure where they can discuss all the different parts of their cultures including foods, traditions, holidays, and more. From there, they would be able to include pictures, drawings, and diagrams to represent all this information and would have the opportunity to share with their classmates and learn about new cultures.
