Summary
Today is Sunday and that means it’s dim sum time with my whole family! I can’t wait to see everyone, especially Grandma. I’m going to eat lots of shrimp dumplings, rice noodle rolls, egg tarts, and my favorite—char siu buns. We will have to order enough for us all to share. So what are you waiting for? Dim sum, here we come!

Personal Response
I really enjoyed this book as it carries an overall lighthearted mood, has simple lessons about manners, and shares various traditions and customs that some Asian Americans may have. This book is very relatable in the sense that anyone can recall a time that their family shared a meal, or went out to a restaurant to eat. This reminded me of my own Sunday family dinners that I have each where we all eat and spend time together, and where I have learned many table manners.
Teaching Ideas
This book would be a great way to introduce the concept of traditions to my class. I could use this book as a shared read aloud in small groups, which could provide an opportunity for discussions about cultures and traditions within those cultures, and for students to share their own traditions in their family. I would have students participate in a cooking activity (STEM extension) where they would recreate some of the foods from the book and then later in the day try them out after cooking.
