Personal Response
This book opens a door to a great opportunity that introduces different languages, cultures, and opinions. I find this book to be very connecting to individuals who find it difficult to communicate with one another. There are ways to overcome that barrier by learning each others languages. Of course, that is easier said than done, but I have done it and it was very rewarding and pleasing to see how big my world got!
Teaching Ideas
After reading this book with students, I would do a craft with them which would require my students to use Google Translate and say something in a different language. I would have them do a cut out of themselves and we would put a little text bubble near their mouth. In the text bubble, they can write a greeting or a comment in another language of their choosing. They may be surprised to see if their classmates understand what they wrote just by reading it!
