Personal Response

Overall, I enjoyed this book and thought this was a cheerful book full of rich vocabulary that would be great to expose younger students to. One thing that stood out to me in the book were the very detailed illustrations with all the various patterns and colors, which made the book very appealing and fun to look at. I also noticed that although the book focuses on a Muslim main character, it also has very diverse characters from many different cultures throughout it.

Teaching Ideas

I would use this book to talk to my students about problem solving and also self-expression and how fashion or clothes can be a part of that. I would read this aloud to my whole class and then have students make connections to it by thinking of a time when they had a problem and needed to solve it. I would also have students draw a picture of and write about their favorite piece of clothing to wear and share it with the class so that students see how others self-express themselves.
