Personal Response

I enjoyed this story because it gave a quick overview of the various headwear we might see people wearing in society. I believe that children do not understand why sometimes people cover their hair and this would give them an understanding as to why they do. I do wish that the author gave a little more detail on the various head coverings but this is a board book and it is meant to be a quick read.

Teaching Ideas

One lesson idea I have for this story is acceptance. Children will come across their classmates, and people in society who wear head coverings due to religious purpose. I would use this story to explain that this is not something weird or to make fun of but to accept and celebrate. Religion is a very special place in these people’s lives and we all do different things for the special people or beliefs in our lives. It is important to be accepting that others might look different than we do.
