Personal Response

This book is a great illustrated story about Annel and his family. This is a great way of explaining to children about the Indian culture and traditions and food that go along with it. Annel wants to learn about Dada-Ji’s power of a tiger but first he needs to learn how to make hot, hot roti which is what gave Dada-Ji his power when he was a young boy. This gives an imaginative way of learning about traditions and foods of the Indian culture.

Teaching Ideas

I will read this book to my students and have a group discussion where we write down different things that we read that were all about the Indian culture. After reading, we would have students research different cultures that their families might be a part of. Once students know the different cultures, they will pick one to do a small research project on and then present it to the class. They would have to have a food, activity, and a story native to that culture included in their presentation.
