Summary

In this book the main character portrays an empowering message to all that they are enough. It encourages all people to not focus on the characteristics of themselves that often are looked negatively upon, as those characteristics do not “dictate our worth; we both have places here on earth”. The righteous message left within this book inspires and motivates everyone  to recognize their differences or diversity and appreciate it as all people deserve respect and kindness no matter who they are.

Personal Response

This book was wonderfully composed and illustrated. Although it was concise the main message emphasized was powerful, that all people are enough. The book was constructed in the form of a poem allowing the reader to engage with the text and become enticed by the words. This book’s positive message was refreshing and encourages a “life of love, not fear” for everyone. This book feels almost effortlessly empowering and will undoubtedly influence the lives of those that read it, in a positive way.

Teaching Ideas

This book can be used to teach skills of empowerment. Before reading students could be asked how many of them felt they were not good enough. During the book a discussion of what they noticed or themes being created can be done. After reading, an activity, the “About me Tree” can be done to help tie in with the theme of the book, promoting self-worth and embracing differences. Student can create a tree and write on the leaves characteristics about themselves, promote positive self-talk.
