Summary

I Am Enough is a children’s fiction book that emphasized that regardless of someone’s looks, abilities, or their cultural background, that you are unique. This text reminds children that they are able, and they are worth of respect from others. The author, Grace Byers, encourages the readers to recognize and accept diversity and to always show respect and be kind to others, no matter their appearance, they are enough, and they belong.

Theme(s):

Self-Worth and Accepting Differences

Personal Response

I really enjoy reading this children’s book to my preschool students during the first few months of school. I think that this text really emphasizes how we need to accept everyone’s differences and how we are all the same in some ways. It also displays the emotions that students can go through. The author also used simplistic text, and restated the words, “I Am Enough” after each sentence. No matter your background, you are enough, and you matter.

Teaching Ideas

Inside my classroom I would use this book to illustrate something that they are good at. Some students may be good at riding their bicycles, some may be good a singing, some other may be good at cooking. After they draw their own picture, they will get into a small group of peers and share what they drew on their paper. Each student will get a chance to share with their peers in the classroom and they will hear the different thing that their classmates are good at.
