Summary

This book is about a young girl who is about to embark on her very first day of kindergarten. The author encourages readers to learn about what happens on the first day of school by taking them along for the ride. During this time, the narrator meets her kindergarten teacher, gets acclimated to the classroom setting, and plays a game with her classmates in order to get to know them a bit better.

Personal Response

I really enjoyed reading this book because I found it to be extremely relatable to my personal life as I have always dreamt of teaching kindergarten. I think this is a great book to read to kindergartens on the first day of school because it helps them to learn more about what to expect and feel comfortable in a new environment.

Teaching Ideas

Following the reading, I would have a class discussion with the students about what to expect in kindergarten. Next, I would encourage the students to identify one new thing they would like to learn/do this year and draw an illustration of it. Afterwards, the students would take turns sharing what they made as I make a list of all the things they would like to do/learn about.
