Summary
Kitchi the Spirit Fox tells the story of Native American boy Forrest, who feels lost and sad now that his older brother Kitchi is no longer alive. Magic comes alive in this book as Forrest clings onto a necklace that reminds him of Kitchi. The necklace comes to life as it shows Forrest a map. Forrest goes on an adventure and is led to a totem poll and fox wearing his brothers necklace. The fox protects Kitchi from a pack of wild wolves. Forrest will always feel safe and never alone with the fox.

This story was engaging, and takes you on a ride full of emotions. At first, I felt sad for Forrest as he lost his brother and feels so alone. But through his adventure, Forrest meets a fox who is wearing his brothers old necklace. The fox protects Forrest from a pack of wolves, and Forrest realizes he will never be alone. I love how the theme of brotherhood is represented in the story, as it is a big value to many different Native American cultures.

Students will learn that it’s very important in Native American cultures to protect your loved ones, and about different Native American symbols like totem polls.
