Personal Response

This was a fantastic biography on Malala Yousafzai. Before reading this book, I was not aware of the childhood Malala lived and everything she has done thus far for standing up for girls’ education. I enjoyed the facts that are incorporated on the back of the book as well as the biographical timeline that includes historical pictures of Malala’s life.

Teaching Ideas

A older elementary literacy activity that could be tied into this book after reading it as a class would be to conduct research on what girls’ education was like when Malala was growing up, then compare it to now. Students could be split into 2 groups- one on girls education now and one on girl’s education then. Each group will create a presentation on what new information they learned and compare the two educations.
