Summary

This is a song that was converted into a story, it explains how we all need food to make us strong but depending on your culture these foods will look different. The story explained the different ways to eat food such as a fork or chopsticks. It also went into detail about some of the foods we would find in different cultures.

Theme(s):

Friendship, culture, food

Personal Response

I loved how this story was told in a song-like manor with rhyming words, this makes it appealing to students. I loved how the story emphasized the idea that we all need food to survive but we do not all eat the same things. I think this would be a great story to use with lower elementary students.

Teaching Ideas

I would use this story to teach about the different foods our students might bring to lunch. Food is a large part of someone’s culture and those who are not from that culture might not be familiar with the foods. Children can be cruel sometimes and pick on students who might bring “weird” things for lunch. I would use this story to do a lesson on the fact that we all eat different things and that it is important to who we are.
