Personal Response

This is a heartwarming book with a collage style illustration. The story does a wonderful job following the two characters as they continue to bond and share their special day together. The book shows the grandfathers dedication to his granddaughter and his loyalty to their shared Thursday’s as it is the only time his routine changes. The story only highlights the two characters which is a beautiful way to further emphasize the importance of their relationship.

Teaching Ideas

This story is great for teaching about family traditions and dynamics. This granddaughter and grandfather duo share every Thursday together which may be relatable for some children. Some children may be raised by grandparents or in a single adult household. This story is a great way to get children talking about the important people in their lives and what their favorite days with those individuals look like. Generational traditions and connections is a great talking point for this read aloud.
