Personal Response

This was a fantastic biography on Rosa Parks. This book tells a great story about the life Rosa Parks led as well as how she stood up to end segregation. When reading autobiographies, most of them include real photographs, not illustrations like this book has. I enjoyed the facts that are incorporated on the back of the book as well as the biographical timeline that includes historical pictures of Rosa Park’s life.

Teaching Ideas

A literacy activity that could be tied into this book after reading it as a class would be to research what segregation is as well as what the Freedom Movement is. Students could be split into 2 groups- one on segregation before the Freedom Movement now and the other after the segregation movement. Each group will create a presentation on what new information they learned and compare the two.
