Summary

While reading this book, we learn about the friendship between Elliot and Kailash. Elliot lives in America and Kailash lives in India. Even though they both write to each other from different countries, they realize they have more in common then they thought. They both like to go to school and love animals.  Even though they live far apart and have different cultural norms, they are alike in many other ways.

Personal Response

While reading this book, I think that it focuses on diversity and that friendship between two individuals that are across the world and live very different lives can be a beautiful one. I think this book highlights that even though some of us are different, we are alike in ways as well.

Teaching Ideas

After reading this book, I thought of ways to incorporate this in my classroom, I would do this by having a group activity that talks about what some of us may have in common with our friends and what we don’t have in common and how what we have in common and what we don’t have in common can vary, but we all should always be kind to one another and include each other.
