Personal Response
This was a very unique book for me to learn about the traditions of Muslim women and found it very interesting that the hijab can be worn in so many different ways. I think this text helps to portray the difference in lives between different cultural women and can truly be taught for any grade.
Teaching Ideas
For this lesson, I would read this book as a shared reading to the class. Proceeding, I would explain the uniqueness of the hijab and how it makes them feel unique. As a writing prompt, the students would be given “something unique about me is my….because…” where they can fill in the writing prompt and then draw a picture to represent what they wrote.
