Summary

This book is about embracing diversity by demonstrating to readers what life would be like if everyone and everything were the exact same and how it would be too uniform. Throughout the story, readers will learn the importance of diversity and how it is okay to be different. It also teaches readers that everyone is special in their own way and to feel a sense of pride in that.

Personal Response

I really enjoyed reading this book because I felt as though it was very relatable to my own life. I have a fraternal twin sister and although we are twins, we are both extremely different. For example, she is very passionate about nursing while I am very passionate about teaching. Additionally, sometimes it is easy to compare to myself to my sister, however, I have learned that everyone has their own special abilities and we all should feel proud of that.

Teaching Ideas

After reading the book, I would engage the students in an interactive game that encourages them to find a partner who shares one similarity and one difference in order to have a total of two partners. After discussing with each other about this in depth, the students would then take turns sharing with the rest of the class what they found. In addition to this, they would also express through writing what they really enjoyed about this activity and why.
