Personal Response

I found this book to be very well written. I think this book could be used as an important resource when teaching children about acts of kindness and the feelings associated with them. This story is great for emphasizing to children that even the smallest act of kindness can lighten someone’s day and make them feel appreciated. I also appreciated the fact that all of the characters in the book were indigenous.

Teaching Ideas

This book could be used to support a conversation about kindness. Teachers could use this book at the beginning of the school year to support children in generating a list of rules or ways they can show kindness in their classroom and community, but could also be referenced throughout the school year. Teachers could also have students reflect on ways that someone has performed an act of kindness for them, or a time they have done this for someone, and how it made them feel.
